American Society
In the letter we read, J. Hector St. John De Crevecoeur, said "... we are the most perfect socitey now exisiting in the world." Different people of course will have different opinions about what our society looks like but there is usually one overall view. America is in the retaliation process of 9/11, in Iraq, and president Bush thinks that this is a good idea. We are standing up for ourselves and making a point, but at the same time might be getting in deeper than we need to. What makes a good society? What seperated a good society from a great society? Is the war in Iraq making our current society better or worse?

This inquiry is a very thought provoking topic which inevitably can be quite difficult to explain. The problem is that we have no sense of what a good society is. As Americans, we look upon ourselves with a sense of confidence and arrogance, assuming that while we withhold the title as being an American we reside to a better life than others in yonder parts of the world. But when you actually look a little more in-depth in our American Society we possess problems that can be found to be more atrocious than one can believe. As this question states, we are currently at war with Iraq due to the struggles of Terrorist Events for the past 2 decades. Our current leader, George Bush, feels that by sending our troops to reconstruct Iraq, we will protect and uphold the reputation of the American Society. But how is diminishing Iraq’s homeland an effort to aid their society as well as ours. Crevecoeur states in From Letters from an American Farmer, “…we are the most perfect society now existing in the world.” Perfect is referred to as: complete without any flaws, defects, or shortcoming. Either we need to omit Crevecoeur’s thoughts of American portraying a perfect society or we need to create a new definition for the word perfect.
