response to bryce

In court we are always asked to swear the truth on the bible because it has been a tradition in American court system for over 200 years. Jeffersons quote is a logical explanation of why church and state should be seperated, but in practice religon and other associated beliefs have always influenced politics. One example of this is the fact that we have not had a atheist or agnostic president. Neither major political party has ever nominated one. The reason being is that they want a popular candidat to win. More people are religous and go to church then those who do not. However, there are other examples where there is an obvious seperation of church and state. Some presidential decisions are not based on their religious beliefs. They are based on survival and personal gratification. I am talking about wars, and adulterous acts.
