In the reading, Thomas Paine makes several references to God, especially in "The Crisis, No. 1". He strongly believes that his actions and that of his country, are justifiable in the name of God. At one point he says, "...I cannot see on what grounds the king of Britian can look up to heaven for help against us:" Most likely, the King would disagree with this statement. What reasons would the King have that would make him think that his actions were justifiable in the name of God? Why would he think God would favor him and his country?
